What's New with Version 8.0
GrandPrix Race Manager™ was originally written
for use in our Awana Grand Prix races of Gateway Church of El Cajon,
CA. Then it was offered as shareware for a couple of years before being
rewritten as a commercial grade application and launched as Version 2.0.
Each year we continue to improve the software and use it to run our own
Awana and Cub Scout races each year. Countless race coordinators have given
their feedback and suggestions over the years, which has helped make GrandPrix
Race Manager into a quality race management software package and
an outstanding value for the price.
Here's a summary of what's new:
- General
- Added a utility that will merge the data from two data files.
- Most data tables now have the ability to export their data to a CSV (Comma
Separated Values) file. You can use this data to make custom reports,
if desired.
- Added a warning if trying to open a data file that wasn't created by
GrandPrix Race Manager.
- Registration Tab
- Added support for using photos for each racer (or their race vehicle).
Photos will be displayed in the Racing, On Deck, Track Record,
Heat Winner, Roster, and Awards/Standings screens. Image column
is hidden if the photo feature is not enabled.
- If using our DerbyDMV software,
you can simply export your rosters from that program and import it into GrandPrix
Race Manager. The locations of your photos are also imported, saving
you work. Conversely, you can export your rosters from GrandPrix
Race Manager and import them into DerbyDMV,
photos and all.
- Added ability to exclude a racer from the standings but still allow
them to race.
- Added ability to do bulk vehicle number changes.
- When adding a racer and a schedule already exists, an option
to delete the schedule will be given at that time.
- Schedule Tab
- Added ability to collate group schedules for a round into a single master
schedule. Racers won't have to wait for their group's turn to race and
they will only face racers within their race group.
- When trying to generate a schedule, a list of un-passed racers will be
displayed to aid in identifying if any racers were inadvertently not
passed.
- Improved how evenly racers were assigned to each lane of the track for
the "Dynamic" scheduling method. Lane equity cannot be
assured when maximizing heat winners, but it has been greatly improved.
- Made it easier to delete a round, if racing was already started.
- Software Setup Screen
- Moved the Track Record setup section to its own screen.
- Added the option to add a photo for each racer.
- Added option to create master schedules (schedules from each group in a round, collated
together). You can specify how many heats to run before switching to
the next race group.
- Added the option to exclude racers from the standings but still allow
them to be added to the race schedules.
- Hardware Setup Screen
- Added an end of race signal to be sent to a light tree once results received
from the timer.
- Custom Serial Timer Setup Screen
- Added support for lane masking options back in, since the way lane masking
was being done has been simplified.
- Serial Port Communications
- Made serial port communication routines more robust.
- Roster Screen
- Added photos for each racer being displayed. Column is hidden if photo
feature not used.
- Vehicle number column can be hidden, if desired.
- Racing Screen
- Added photos for each racer being displayed. Column is hidden if photo
feature not used.
- If using the master schedule create option, advancing to the next
heat will be based on the next heat of the master schedule.
- The height of the bottom section is now remembered and used the next
time you open the screen.
- Added a Heat Winners tab. When a heat is complete, this tab will automatically
show the information for the winner of a heat, their results and their
photo (if photo feature enabled).
- Vehicle number column can now be hidden, if desired.
- Track Records
- Notification screen now displays the racer's name, vehicle number and
photo (if photo feature enabled).
- The Track Record tab will display the racer's photo, if photo feature
enabled.
- Fonts for the Track Record tab will resize automatically to maximize
audience's ability to view.
- If the overall track record display is selected, then the record broken
notification will only occur if the overall record is broken (as
opposed to the record for the group currently racing).
- Added a setup screen for easier maintenance of track records.
- Top Times
- Added vehicle name and group columns (optional).
- Fonts for the Top Times tab can resize automatically to maximize
audience's ability to view (optional).
- Added a setup screen for easier maintenance of top times:
- You can specify the number of top times to display.
- You can edit any of the top times.
- You can delete out any of the top times.
- You have the option for the fonts on the Top Times tab to resize
automatically to maximize viewability.
- You have the ability to show/hide the vehicle name and group columns.
- On Deck
- Added photos for each racer being displayed. Column is hidden if photo
feature not used.
- The On Deck tab will show the next un-run heat, instead of the next heat
(run or not). This tab will automatically be shown when going to the next
heat.
- Shows the next un-run heat, instead of the next heat (run or not). If
using the master schedule create option, the next un-run heat on the master
schedule is what will be displayed.
- Vehicle number column can be hidden, if desired.
- Awards/Standings Screen
- Added photos for each racer being displayed. Column is hidden if photo
feature not used.
- Vehicle number column can be hidden, if desired.
- Reports Screen
- Added the ability to print a master collated schedule for groups in a round.
- Added the ability to generate team standings with groups or subgroups
as the teams.
- Improved CSV and Excel exports.
